| Small Pieces of Paradise |
The KERAMA islands are a chain of beautiful subtropical islands which
lie about 40 km west of Naha city in the East China Sea. They can be reached
in about 50 minutes by express boat. Zamami village is made up of several
islands that compose the western half of the KERAMA Island Chain.
In 1979 Zamami was specified as an Okinawa coast Quasi-National Park.
And in 2005 inland sea between Zamami Island and Aka Island was registered
as Ramsar site. |

It has become known for its crystal clear ocean, and having one of the
world’s best coral reefs. Diving is especially popular.
Historically, Zamami belongs to the Ryukyu Kingdom and known as a trading
outpost between China and the Ryukyu Kingdom, as well as being the birthplace
of the Okinawa bonito fishing industry.
The people of Zamami village live in three islands (Zamami Island, Aka
Island and Geruma Island) and add up to a population of about 1000 people.
Each island has many observatories and sightseeing points .The view from
those points is one of deep green uninhabited islands bordered by pure
white sand,surrounded by the ocean, which colored from dark navy blue to
bright emerald green.
There is no question that these beautiful views will remain in your heart
as visions of paradise. |

On Aka and Geruma Islands you can also encounter the Kerama Deer, an endangered species that only lives on the Kerama Island Chain. Humpback whales also come to the islands for breeding and to raise their children during the winter.
More than 80,000 tourists visit the village every year, with many people
visiting repeatedly. |

Mt. Takatsuki park
It has two observatories and a nice promenade built on the highest place in Zamami, about 137M above sea level. The views from observatories are some of the most beautiful in Zamami.

The Monument of Peace The ground battle of Okinawa started from the bombing to Zamami on the 26th of March in 1945. The Monument of Peace (on which are scribed the name of all the war dead in Zamami )is looking at a peaceful sea .

Furuzamami Beach
Beautiful beach made up of pure white coral sea sand. It is also a great
snorkeling point where you can swim with various tropical fish . From April
to September it is possible to rent a three point set made up of a mask,
snorkel and fins, from the rental shops located near the shore.

Nishihama Beach
This is also a great snorkeling and diving point where you can swim with

Kerama Deer
These endangered deer have been specified as a national treasure and
can only be seen on Aka and Geruma islands,as well as some of the surrounding
uninhabited islands.They are smaller than Japanese deer and have much darker
fur.

SCUBA DIVING Divers can enjoy various type of diving in Zamami village, such as diving at points with interesting geographical features and currents that are populated with many different types of creatures.
There are around 40 diving services that you can join even without a
diving license. For first-time divers everything can be rented at the diving
service, including wetsuits and fins. Instructors will dive along side
you and show you beautiful spectacle in the sea. |

| SNORKELING Even without diving materials, you can still enjoy watching the tropical
fish that swim in the coral reef surrounding Zamami. All you need are a
snorkel and some fins!There is a huge variety of fish that live near Furuzamami
beach and Nishibama beach, and the impressive snorkeling experience you
can have there is great for small children and elderly people as well. If you are lucky, the sea turtle will be seen. |

SEA KAYAK The sea kayak is a one or two seat boat which, because it has no engine, has no negative influence on the environment.

WHALE WATCHING A group of humpback whales visits Zamami in winter every year for mating,
childbirth and child reading. The performance of whales is quite exciting,
including breaching, tail slap, and many more impressive tricks. The Zamami
Village Whale Watching Association makes sure that the whales are protected
from any unwanted disturbances while still giving whale watchers a good
view of the spectacle.
